Flashback to the scenario when Pele, the Goddess of
Fire, first caught sight of the beauty and grandeur of Mauna Loa volcano, the
world’s largest and tallest – covering almost half of the Big Island. As the
folklore had it, Pele was fleeing the wrath of Kampuaa, the goddess of water,
who in a fit of jealous rage was after Pele’s head using her power to immerse Pele’s
hiding places under water – Pele included! When Pele came upon Mauna Loa Mountain
she liked what she saw – high enough to make Kampaa’s water power ineffective, the
spectacular view of Mauna Loa struck her too!
Reasons enough to make Mauna Loa her home. Forever!
